How to Link PAN Card with Aadhaar Card Online at eportal.incometax.gov.in

The Income Tax Department has made it easy for Indian citizens to link their PAN cards with their Aadhaar online via their official website, eportal.incometax.gov.in.

PAN (Permanent Account Number) and Aadhaar are two essential identification documents for Indian citizens, particularly for financial transactions and accessing government services.

The Government of India has mandated that all taxpayers link their PAN cards with their Aadhaar. Failing to do so could result in the deactivation of your PAN, which is crucial for filing income tax returns and other financial activities.

What is PAN-Aadhaar Linking?

PAN-Aadhaar Linking involves connecting your PAN Card with your Aadhaar number. This process, made mandatory by the government in 2017, helps to curb tax evasion and ensures that every taxpayer has a unique identification number.

Checking Your PAN-Aadhaar Linking Status

Before linking your PAN with Aadhaar, check whether they are already linked. Visit the Income Tax Department’s e-filing portal, click on the “Link Aadhaar” option under “Quick Links,” enter your PAN and Aadhaar numbers, and click on “View Link Aadhaar Status.” If they are linked, you will receive a confirmation message.

Benefits of PAN-Aadhaar Linking

  • Simplified Tax Filing: Linking PAN with Aadhaar simplifies the online filing of income tax returns.
  • Paperless Verification: With your PAN linked to your Aadhaar, there’s no need to submit physical documents for tax filing, saving time and effort.
  • Avoid Penalties: Failure to link PAN with Aadhaar can result in a penalty of up to Rs. 1,000.
  • Unique Identification: A linked PAN-Aadhaar provides a unique identification number, reducing identity theft risk.

The deadline for linking PAN with Aadhaar was extended to 30th June 2023. From 1st July 2023, unlinked PANs became inoperative. However, they can be reactivated within 30 days by linking Aadhaar and paying a Rs. 1,000 fee.
