Lakhpati Didi Scheme: A Game-Changer for Women’s Empowerment

The central government has launched the ‘Lakhpati Didi’ scheme to empower rural women. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the scheme in his Independence Day speech on August 15, 2023.

The Lakhpati Didi Scheme encourages women to start microenterprises. The scheme’s objectives are poverty alleviation and economic empowerment through self-employment.

Under this scheme, women receive skill training and are provided with the opportunity to earn more than one lakh rupees per year through self-employment.

Additionally, interest-free loans of up to Rs.5 lakh are provided to women to start their businesses. As part of this scheme, Prime Minister Modi distributed Lakhpati Didi certificates to 11 lakh women on August 25.

A fund of Rs.2500 crore has been released for this scheme, which will benefit 48 lakh women in 4.3 lakh self-help groups. Furthermore, interest-free loans of up to Rs.5 lakh will be provided to women under this scheme.
