Good news for students
The Center has announced good news for students. The Union Cabinet approved the PM-Vidyalaxmi scheme. Several important decisions were made during the cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Under the PM-Vidyalaxmi scheme, students who have gained admission to 860 educational institutions across the country will be able to secure a loan of up to Rs. 7.50 lakh, guaranteed by the Central Government. The government will provide a guarantee to banks for up to 75 percent of the loan amount.
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, while disclosing the Cabinet’s decisions to the media, mentioned that the Cabinet approved an allocation of Rs. 10,700 crore for capital requirements in the Food Corporation of India (FCI).
More than 22 lakh talented students are expected to benefit from the PM-Vidyalaxmi scheme each year. The minister emphasized that this process is simple, transparent, and student-friendly.
This scheme is available to individuals with an annual income of less than Rs. 8 lakhs. An interest subvention of 3 percent will be provided on loans up to Rs. 10 lakhs.
However, beneficiaries of any government scholarship are not eligible for this scheme. Students can apply through the PM Vidyalaxmi website.
PM-Vidyalaxmi scheme
The Union Cabinet approved the PM-Vidyalaxmi scheme, which aims to provide financial assistance to talented students and ensure that financial challenges do not hinder them from pursuing higher education.
Eligible participants are those who have gained admission to quality higher educational institutions (QHEIs). Under this scheme, banks and other financial institutions will offer loans to cover their courses’ total tuition fees and associated costs without requiring any collateral.
The scheme applies to institutions ranked in the top 100, as identified by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) under the Union Ministry of Education.
More than 2.2 million students are eligible for admission to these educational institutions through the Vidya Laxmi scheme. Each student can receive a loan of up to Rs. 7.5 lakh.
