Electronic cards are very convenient for people. Under this, applicants can print documents such as an Aadhaar card. These cards have a unique ID and QR code. Traffic police use them for document verification.
The Delhi government plans to introduce electronic cards to replace intelligent cards, driving licenses (DL), and vehicle registration certificates (RC).
According to reports, these new cards will likely be issued along the same lines as the Aadhaar card and will be easy to use.
Benefits: According to an official of the Delhi Transport Department, this scheme, which the Rajasthan government earlier introduced, is being reviewed. This scheme aims to convert the innovative card system into a digital form.
Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot is pushing the scheme to solve problems related to vehicle registration. He said there is a delay in distributing Registration Certificates (RC) and ordered action to address this.
Convenient Electronic Cards: Electronic cards are very convenient for people. With them, applicants can print the documents themselves, like an Aadhaar card. These cards have a unique ID and QR code. Traffic police use them for document verification.
According to a transport department official, these electronic documents can also be accessed through DigiLocker or the mParivahan app.
This makes it very easy for people to show their documents. However, experts say that implementation in all states is likely in the coming days.
Licenses and RCs issued last year in lakhs: Between 2023 and 2024, the Delhi Transport Department issued 1.6 lakh driving licenses and 6.69 lakh registration certificates until May. Now, only electronic driving licenses and registration certificates are issued.
Steps towards Digital RC: Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot has directed officials to study the digital RC facility. This scheme was introduced to provide better services to Delhi’s residents.
Under this, the documents in PEF format will be available on the transport service portal with the verification facility through a QR code.
The relevant links will also be sent to the applicant’s registered mobile numbers so that they can easily collect their documents.
