When you went to the ATM to withdraw money, did you not receive any cash? Did you get a message on your mobile indicating that the amount was debited from your account? Did you also receive a receipt confirming that the transaction was completed? Don’t stress; if you follow these steps, you can retrieve your money safely.
While ATM usage has decreased in favor of online transactions, they are sometimes necessary for cash withdrawals. However, not all ATMs are functioning correctly.
Occasionally, a malfunctioning ATM may complete the transaction without dispensing cash, and you might still receive a message saying that the money has been debited from your account.
This can be confusing, leaving you unsure of what to do. Here’s what you should do if you find yourself in this situation.
If you do not receive money when withdrawing from an ATM, follow these steps:
Check Your Bank Statement: First, verify your bank statement to see if the amount you withdrew has been debited. Sometimes, it may appear immediately.
Gather Important Information: If you don’t see the transaction in your statement, note the date, time, ATM location, transaction ID, and receipt (if you have one).
Contact Customer Care: Call your bank’s customer service number and provide them with the ATM ID and transaction number. Explain the situation and provide any additional details they require so they can track the transaction and assist you.
Visit Your Local Bank Branch: If the issue isn’t resolved over the phone, visit the nearest bank branch that owns the ATM. Bring the receipt and details you’ve gathered and explain the problem to the officials.
Register a Complaint: File a written complaint at the bank and register the issue on the bank’s official website.
According to bank policies, your issue should be resolved within five days of filing the complaint. If it is not resolved within this timeframe, the bank must compensate you with a fine.
If your problem isn’t addressed after five days, the bank will pay you ₹100 per day until the issue is resolved.
Furthermore, if you still haven’t received your funds, you can escalate the matter by filing a complaint with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
