Automatic FASTag Recharge: The Future of Toll Payments

Many people travel on highways and encounter toll gates, where charges vary based on vehicle type. The government has made frequent changes to toll collection, and recently, the RBI announced beneficial news for motorists.

Since November 2016, FASTag has been mandatory for vehicles, requiring motorists to pre-recharge it. When crossing a toll gate, the FASTag scanner deducts the amount.

However, motorists often face issues when the FASTag balance runs low. To address this, the RBI decided to allow automatic recharging.

Following these changes, there is no longer a 24-hour waiting period for FASTag recharge. Previously, a notification was required 24 hours before the toll amount could be debited from the motorist’s account.

Now, motorists can opt for auto-replenishment when the balance falls below a specific limit. This will reduce congestion at toll plazas during emergencies, as the system will autonomously recharge without motorist intervention.

With these changes, motorists need not worry about low balances and can pass through toll gates smoothly.
