Deposit Cash at ATMs Using UPI ID or Virtual Payment Address

In the past, to deposit money into a bank account, one had to visit the bank physically. Later, cash deposit machines were introduced at ATM centers.

Initially, using these machines required a debit card or account number. However, now you can deposit cash without these requirements through the UPI Interoperable Cash Deposit (UPI-ICD) method. Let’s explore how to make a cash deposit using this method.

With UPI-ICD, you can deposit cash at ATM centers operated by banks and white-label operators without needing a debit card.

This allows you to deposit money into your or someone else’s bank account. To proceed, you must enter your UPI ID, virtual payment address, or IFSC code linked to your mobile number.

Here’s how to make a deposit:

  1. Visit an ATM center that has cash deposit facilities.
  2. Select the UPI ICD or UPI Cash Deposit option on the cash deposit machine screen.
  3. A QR code will appear on the screen. Scan it using any UPI app on your smartphone.
  4. After scanning, your phone will display options asking whether you want to deposit money into your or someone else’s bank account.
  5. If you choose to deposit into your account, select the “Deposit in Own Account” option. The bank accounts linked to your UPI ID will be displayed on your phone screen.
  6. Select the bank account where you want to deposit the money.
  7. Once selected, the cash deposit compartment will open. Enter the amount you wish to deposit.
  8. The machine will count the cash and show the details on the ATM screen.
  9. Click the “Confirm” option to see if the details are correct.

That’s it! The amount will be successfully deposited into your bank account.
