The central government has introduced the E-Shram Card scheme for workers in the unorganized sector.
Under this scheme, the Center has given Rs. 1000 to all those who have joined the e-SHRAM platform before the third week of January 2024. Additionally, the government is preparing to provide another Rs. 1000 in March.
The scheme, officially known by the Central Labor and Employment Department as the Shram Card Yojana aims to provide an e-Labour Card, similar to the Aadhaar card, to employees and workers in the unorganized sector.
Many people have already joined the Shram portal (https://eshram.gov.in/) to take advantage of the benefits. Those eligible will have the opportunity to receive Rs. 1,000 in the second week of March.
Eligibility criteria for receiving E-Shram Card Money include:
- Being between 15 to 59 years old.
- Not being a member of the EPFO or ESIC.
- Not paying taxes.
- Applicants should be working in the unorganized sector.
The documents required for E-Shram Card Money are an Aadhaar card, bank passbook, ration card, mobile number, and electricity bill.
To register for the e-shram card, candidates can visit their nearest Seva Kendra and register their name through https://eshram.gov.in portal. Registrations have been ongoing since August 26, 2021, and the process is open nationwide.
For self-registration, individuals can visit the Sharma portal, click on eSHRAM, and proceed to the National Database for Unorganized Workers website.
There, they can click “Register New UW,” provide their Aadhaar e-KYC details, enter the OTP sent to their mobile number, continue to enter other information and submit the registration.
Individuals can benefit from this scheme by downloading the Universal Account Number (UAN) card, i.e., the e-shram card. For further details, individuals can contact the helpline at 14432.
