For government employees who joined on or after January 1, 2004, the process of checking their Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) Fund Value and downloading the annual statement of transactions has been made remarkably simple.

This can be done online through the National Pension System (NPS) portal, which offers a convenient way to manage one’s pension.

The National Pension System (NPS), introduced by the Central Government on January 1, 2004, is a comprehensive pension system that covers employees in various state government departments across India, except for the armed forces. It provides a sense of security and stability for their future.

The Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) is crucial in regulating NPS. It oversees the system, ensuring it operates in the best interest of the employees. NSDL serves as the Central Recordkeeping Agency (CRA) under its supervision.

Various state governments have implemented NPS, allowing employees to contribute towards their pensions from their monthly salaries, with matching contributions from the employer.

These contributions are invested in designated schemes managed by Pension Fund Managers (PFMs).

CPS Scheme Information

Under the current PFRDA guidelines, pension contributions for state government employees are invested in default schemes managed by three PFMs: LIC Pension Fund Limited and SBI Pension Funds Pvt. Limited, and UTI Retirement Solutions Limited.

Each state government determines the allocation among these PFMs, reflected in the transaction statements.

Typically, 85% of the funds are invested in fixed-income instruments, with the remaining 15% allocated to equity and equity-related instruments.

How to Check and Download Your CPS Fund Value

To access your CPS Fund Value, follow these steps:

1. Visit the NSDL CRA website by entering the URL https://cra-nsdl.com/CRA/ in your browser.
2. On the homepage, select the “CPS Subscribers” option.
3. Enter your 12-digit PRAN (Permanent Retirement Account Number) and password.
4. Click the “Submit” button.
5. Once logged in, you’ll see various sections, including Security, Account Details, Grievance, Transaction Statement, Exit Withdrawal Request, Views, and User Maintenance.

• To view personal details, Navigate to the Account Details section, where you can access personal details, nomination details, bank details, and scheme preferences.
• To view your Transaction Statement, Click on the Transaction Statement section. You can view the Statement of Holding and the quarterly Statement of Transactions.

The CRA, essential to the NPS infrastructure, handles recordkeeping, administration, and customer service for all NPS subscribers.

It issues a unique PRAN to each subscriber, maintains transaction records, and coordinates with other NPS intermediaries, such as Pension Funds and Annuity Service Providers.
