GNSS-Satellite Based Toll Collection: Pay Less, Travel More

The central government, always striving to enhance the travel experience for motorists, has announced some good news.

It has decided to introduce a new satellite-based electronic toll collection system to relieve frequent travelers on national highways.

Based on the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), the new system will automatically deduct toll charges for vehicles equipped with an onboard unit with a navigation satellite system as they pass through the toll gates.

This system will work with the existing FASTag and automatic number plate recognition technology.

Furthermore, vehicles with navigation devices will have standard toll charges, and a new zero-toll corridor of up to 20 kilometers has been introduced on national highways.

This means no toll needs to be paid for the first 20 kilometers. After that, the toll tax will be applied based on the distance traveled.

This new system aims to reduce congestion at toll gates and improve efficiency. It will initially be implemented on major national highways and expressways before being rolled out nationwide.
