What is UPI Circle? The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has introduced a new ‘UPI Circle’ feature to promote digital payments.

This new feature allows UPI users to add their family members and friends as secondary users. Secondary users can then transact from the primary user’s bank account.

What are the features of UPI Circle? Through UPI Circle, the primary user can add family or friends as secondary users in their account, allowing them to transact within a specific limit set by the primary user. This feature is designed for individuals without bank accounts, new digital payment users, and those wary of online payments.

NPCI states that this feature is handy for secondary users financially dependent on the primary user. Parents can use UPI Circle to give pocket money to their children, children can assist senior citizens, and employers can meet the financial needs of their employees. The primary user can set the maximum amount the secondary user can spend per transaction and monitor their transactions.

Currently, the monthly transaction limit for UPI Circle is Rs. 15,000, and the maximum limit per transaction is Rs. 5,000. Additionally, up to 24 hours after the secondary user is added, they can only transact up to Rs. 5,000.

How to set up UPI Circle?

  1. Click on the “UPI Circle” option available in UPI apps.
  2. Enter the Secondary UPI ID, scan their UPI QR code, or search and add their phone number to your contacts.
  3. You can set up permissions by choosing one of the following options: “Spend With Limits” or “Approve Every Payment.”
  4. A notification will be sent to the secondary user to accept the request.
  5. After acceptance, the secondary user can transact from the primary user’s account.
  6. A primary user can add up to five people as secondary users, with each secondary user having only one primary user.

There is also an option to remove a secondary user if required.
