Indian Railways is set to launch a ‘Super App’ offering a wide range of services, including ticket booking and live train status updates.
This move aims to provide more convenience to passengers and will challenge the existing IRCTC app.
The Railway Department has been making significant progress with the introduction of trains like Vande Bharat and Vande Metro, and there are plans to introduce bullet trains shortly.
Efforts are also being made to simplify both online and offline ticket booking services to accompany the rapid expansion of the railways.
The ‘Super App’ is expected to offer tough competition to the IRCTC app. It will provide a one-stop solution for ticket booking, PNR status checks, and live train status updates, eliminating the need for multiple apps. The government aims to simplify ticket booking through this new app.
The Government of India has recently launched 6 Vande Bharat Trains, which aim to make railway services more accessible across 280 districts in the country.
These trains, part of the Make in India initiative, operate at 160 mph and serve 10 million passengers, setting new benchmarks with faster journey times, advanced safety features, and world-class facilities.
During a recent media conference, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav mentioned that the ‘Super App’ will encompass all railway services.
However, details regarding its public release and development progress were not disclosed. The launch of the Railway Super App is expected to address various challenges train passengers face.
The IRCTC Rail Connect app has been the most popular choice among the various railway services apps, with over 100 million downloads.
Other apps such as Rail Madad, UTS, Satark, TMS-Direction, IRCTC Air, and Portread also offer railway services to the public. The government aims to consolidate all these services into the ‘Super App.’
