Google Pay has revolutionized the landscape of digital payments in India. Typically, Google Pay is linked to debit cards. However, if you have a RuPay card, you can also use a credit card for UPI transactions.
Apps like Google Pay, PhonePe, and Paytm play a significant role in promoting digital payments. Until recently, many users have only linked their debit cards to these payment applications.
However, many payment apps have introduced features that allow users to add credit cards. Google Pay now offers the option to link a credit card, but you must possess a RuPay credit card for this feature.
RuPay credit cards are available in all major government and private banks, including prominent banks like SBI, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Punjab National Bank, Axis Bank, and several regional and cooperative banks.
With a RuPay credit card, you can safely and efficiently transact through Google Pay at offline stores and online platforms. Here’s how to link your RuPay credit card to Google Pay:
Steps to Link RuPay Credit Card to Google Pay:
- Open Google Pay on your mobile device.
- Tap on your profile picture and go to ‘Payment Methods.’
- Select the ‘Add RuPay credit card’ option. Choose your bank and enter your card details (CVV, card number, and expiry date).
- Authenticate the card using the OTP sent to your registered mobile number.
- Set a UPI PIN to enable secure transactions.
Once you have linked your RuPay credit card, you can make UPI payments via QR code, UPI ID, or merchant handle.
Fees: UPI transactions linked to bank accounts are free. However, bill payments made through credit cards, including those on Google Pay, will incur charges.
In March, UPI transactions in India reached a record high of ₹24.77 lakh crore, reflecting a growth of 12.7% compared to February. Additionally, this figure represents a 25% increase in total value and approximately 35% growth in volume compared to the previous year.
