The Government of India has launched various welfare schemes to benefit the country’s citizens.
Among these initiatives, there is a strong emphasis on women’s empowerment, with several programs designed to enhance women’s participation in economic activities and improve their overall lifestyle.
In 2023, the Government of India introduced a unique scheme called “Namo Drone Didi Yojana.” This initiative trains women in the use of drones, enabling them to earn income and access modern drone technology.
Women are encouraged to apply this technology in agriculture, where drones can significantly enhance productivity.
Benefits for Women and Farmers
The Namo Drone Didi Yojana is specifically available to Women’s Self-Help Groups (SHGs) members. The central government aims to train 15,000 women from these groups to operate and use drones.
Drones can perform certain agricultural tasks more efficiently than human laborers, such as monitoring crops and spraying fertilizers and pesticides. By using drones, farmers can address labor shortages and significantly reduce costs.
Training Duration
Participants selected for the Namo Drone Didi Yojana will receive 15-day training on operating drones. The scheme will be implemented nationwide through Agricultural Knowledge Centers (Krishi Gyan Kendras). The Government of India has allocated a budget of Rs. 1,261 crore for this initiative.
Age Eligibility
Applicants must be members of a Self-Help Group to benefit from the Namo Drone Didi Yojana. Additionally, women applying for this scheme must be between 18 and 45.
Application Process
No dedicated website or portal exists for applying to the Namo Drone Didi Yojana. To apply, women must first join a Self-Help Group. After becoming a member, they can submit an offline application through their group.
