The central government has introduced a new scheme called the Pradhan Mantri Anusuchit Jati Abhyudai Yojana (PM-AJAY) aimed at empowering women from disadvantaged sections.
The scheme, launched two years ago, provides a subsidy of Rs. 50,000 to eligible SC/ST women for livelihood support through self-help groups.
The subsidy provided is up to 50% of the loan amount, and the remaining Rs. 50,000 does not accumulate interest.
In the years 2021-22, significant funds were allocated, with 758.64 crore rupees spent and 444 grant-in-aid projects approved, as well as the construction of 19 hostels.
Furthermore, 51.62 crore rupees were allocated for the year 2022-23, and 236.30 crore rupees were allocated for the year 2023-24.
