The central government is implementing various schemes, including the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), launched in June 2015, to provide housing subsidies to people experiencing poverty.
The government recently announced the PM Awas Yojana Urban 2.0, allocating 10 lakh crore rupees in the 2024-25 budget to build 1 crore houses nationwide.
Eligibility for availing PMAY Urban:
- Applicants should still own a house.
- Priority is given to women applicants.
Applicants must be Indian citizens, married and without married children, and they should not have benefited from any other housing scheme by the Government of India or the state government.
- The annual income criteria:
- Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) – not exceeding Rs. 3 lakhs
- Lower Income Group (LIG) – above Rs. 3 lakhs but less than Rs. 6 lakhs
- Middle Income Group (MIG-I) – between Rs. 6 lakhs and Rs. 12 lakhs
- Middle Income Group (MIG-II) – between Rs. 12 lakhs and Rs. 18 lakhs.
Subsidies under PMAY Urban:
- EWS category – Rs. 1.5 lakh subsidy in their bank account and can borrow the rest from the bank.
- MIG I – 4% subsidy on loans up to Rs. 9 lakhs.
- MIG II – 3% subsidy on loans up to Rs. 12 lakhs.
- EWS/LIG category – 6.5% subsidy on loans up to Rs. 6 lakhs.
Documents required: Aadhaar Card, address proof, income certificate, age certificate, mobile number, bank passbook, passport-size photograph.
Application Process for PMAY Urban:
- Visit the official website of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban.
- Click on the Citizen Assessment and then Apply Online.
- Enter your Aadhaar card number and click on check.
- Fill in personal and income details, tick the “I am aware” checkbox,
- Enter the captcha code, and save.
- Download and take a print of the filled application form.
- Please submit the form and supporting documents to the nearest Me Seva Kendra, Common Service Center, or Financial Institution/Bank.
