PM Internship Scheme: Eligibility, Stipend, and Benefits

The Modi government at the Center has introduced a new PM Internship scheme to provide employment and skill training for higher education students.

The PM Internship Scheme officially started as outlined in the previous budget. The central government has established a portal for this purpose.

This portal allows many companies to accept applications from candidates, and eligible individuals interested in apprenticeships can apply.

The portal will be accessible to candidates starting on October 12. Candidates can also apply for various positions through this portal. To apply, candidates need to complete a form providing information about their skills.

The portal will automatically generate a CV based on the candidate’s skills, indicating which companies they are suitable for. Candidates interested in internships will be selected based on their profiles, preferences, and eligibility.

Following this, companies participating in the scheme will select candidates from the pool. The Ministry of Corporate Affairs has also issued guidelines regarding candidate eligibility for apprenticeships.

In the July budget, the central government announced its plan to provide internships to one crore youth. Reliance Industries, Adani Group, and Mahindra are interested in this scheme. The central government aims to train one crore people within five years.

Who can apply: Applicants should have passed 10th grade and be between 21 and 24 years old. No member of the family should hold a government job.

The annual family income should be at most Rs. 8 lakhs. Internships must be separate from any full-time course or job. Graduates from institutions like IIT, IIM, and IISER are not eligible to apply.

Stipend: Under this internship scheme introduced by the Modi government, every student will receive a monthly Internship Allowance of 5000 rupees.

As assistants, candidates will receive Rs 5,000 per month for the full 12-month internship. The company’s CSR funding will provide each intern with Rs 500, while the government will contribute Rs 4500.

Applicants will receive a one-time financial support of Rs 6,000 to cover incidental expenses and the monthly stipend. Additionally, via initiatives like PM Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and PM Suraksha Bima Yojana, the government will guarantee that interns are insured, with the government paying the premiums.

Additionally, corporate companies must cover 10% of the internship cost through the Social Responsibility Fund. This scheme will allow youth to gain skills, enhancing their employability in small and medium industries.
