The government has announced a significant employee benefit, providing insurance coverage from Rs. 10 lakh to Rs. 1 crore without any premium cost.
The Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sharma, revealed a comprehensive insurance policy for state government employees.
The scheme offers life and accidental insurance coverage without any premium cost, aiming to enhance the financial security of government employees and their families.
Under the life insurance policy, government employees will receive a benefit of up to Rs. 10 lakh, and in the case of accidental death, the coverage extends to Rs. 1 crore.
Additionally, the coverage for accidental partial amputation is Rs. 80 lakh. The government clarified that this new insurance policy supplements the existing benefits available to government employees.
Employees with salary accounts at specific banks, such as the State Bank of India (SBI) or other affiliated banks, will automatically benefit from this insurance coverage. They will not be required to pay any premiums, as the government will bear the cost.
It is important to note that employees are not required to submit applications for this scheme, which applies automatically to all state government employees.
Furthermore, the Assam Cabinet also approved a 20% bonus for employees and laborers of Assam Tea Corporation Limited (ATCL) gardens, amounting to Rs. 78.13 crore.
Additionally, the government has allocated Rs. 200 crore in subsidies for the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL).
Other decisions include approving the development of the third Taj Hotel at Jagirroad and amendments to state start-up and industrial policies.
Moreover, the Cabinet has accepted 57 of the 67 recommendations the Justice (Retd) Biplab Sharma Commission made to uphold Clause 6 of the Assam Accord, which is a significant step in the state’s governance.
While these initiatives have received positive feedback, there are suggestions for extending similar free insurance benefits to employees in Other states, acknowledging the financial support it provides to families during challenging times.
